A guide to London's Tried and tested cocktail bars
30 November 2018
With the arrival of the holiday season comes the inevitable arrival of the holiday booze up. If you’re anything like us, then your calendars are also being filled with christmas drinks events with friends, family, co-workers, and distant relatives, who seem to only make appearances during the rare extended family holiday-drinksfest.
To save you the trouble of finding the perfect spot for a Christmas pint (or twenty) here’s a few of the newly approved less ordinary London bars on APLO. These bars are tried and tested London classics and have carried us through many drunken evenings. So definitely hit up these boozy London spots in December, knowing that while your liver may not survive the holidays — at least it was one to remember.
If we’re talking about how to have a less ordinary holiday season, then sustainability should really be front of mind. After all, the holiday season is all about giving back — so why not give something back to our planet? At Scout, they take the zero waste concept to another level, because nothing gets wasted here. The five different cocktail tasting menus explore a foraging first concept, wherein all leftover ingredients are turned into bar snacks.
Deptford is one of the London neighbourhoods going through a kind of renaissance in 2018, and it is places like Stockton that are leading the way. From the people behind Buster Mantis ( a well loved Deptford local ) Stockton is named after a 90’s Basketball hero -  Utah Jazz player, John Stockton. According to owner Gordon McGowan, Stockton is a bar for everyone — which makes this little Deptford gem all the more special.
3.Bar Termini
Bar Termini is the perfect example of the saying, “Big things come in small packages” - because this Compton Street classic offers up a whole lot of style in a small espresso sized package. Bar Termini serves fantastic coffee by day, and a fully dedicated negroni menu at night; quenching the thirst of coffee/negroni loving Londoners since 2014. Bar Termini certainly ticks all of our requirements for less ordinary; because you can always go to Bar Termini for a delicious cuppa or cocktail in the heart of Soho.
4.Bar Hercules This ode to awe-inspiring Herculean feats is something that the new owners kept when transforming the space. While the Tudor style exterior was kept intact; inside a new Hercules has been placed on the mantle. And if you are picturing a classical romanesque sculpture, you’re completely off the mark. What we get, is a gigantic portrait of Arnold Schwarzenegger hanging proudly over the mantle. After all, the governor of California did get his first acting gig playing the Greek demigod himself  in the film Hercules in New York, back in 1970.
