The Best Spots to Cure a Hangover, no matter where you are in town
London is known for its cocktails, its parties, and the many ways in which you can choose to get ‘respectfully’ inebriated. From speakeasies with passwords to enter, to rooftop bars with a view of the skyline, or to simply drinking the night away in your neighbourhood pub, the capital definitely doesn’t scrimp on its booze. Dealing with the repercussions the morning after?  — Well, that’s another (less enjoyable) conversation.
We’ve rounded up less ordinary places to cure your hangover no matter where you wake up in town
North: Popham’s Bakery
Maple bacon croissant. Say that with me one more time without drooling. This explosion of flavours wrapped in perfectly flaky pastry is the work of Popham’s Bakery in Islington. Unique flavour combinations, innovative recipes, and providing London with “not just another bakery or coffee” are exactly what Popham’s set out to do when they opened in late 2017. Many of the dishes are inspired by founder Ollie Gold’s travels around the world. At Popham’s Bakery, Head Chef Florin who gets up at 2am to ensure that croissants and breads are as fresh as can be (his rosemary and sea salt twists are a testament to that). And if you’re looking for that shot of caffeine to perk up your morning, their head barista will set you up with the perfect cup. Now give us those damn carbs.

South: Brother Marcus
Brother Marcus started out as an idea thought up by three school friends in their 20s. Now, it serves up one of the city’s best brunch and small plate offerings with a new spot in picturesque Balham. “Regulars often comment that coming here is like walking into an episode of friends or gate-crashing someone’s living room. Experiencing amazing food and meeting new people around a table is what good eating should be about.”  From Caravan coffee to healthy takes on traditional brunch items, the trio have found the sweet spot for Londoners needing a cure for their hangover blues. You won’t find basic eggs benedicts or granola here. Instead, get ready for The Step Sister: a plate full of sweet potato, courgette and feta fritters, avocado, spinach, kale, turmeric yoghurt, and a poached egg (its gluten-free too!) 100% guaranteed to cure any booze induced hunger pains, and surely counts as part of your five-a-day.

Central: Maison Bab
In the mood for that old faithful kebab but want to attempt to keep things a little bit classy? Maison Bab will sort you out. They call themselves a modern kebab house that makes everything from scratch and only using seasonal produce and ethical ingredients. Their drool-worthy dishes include a 15-hour pork shawarma, a baked-to-order meat butter naan, and their famous Iskender & Fondue Fries (read: cheesy and spicy sauces poured all over your chips). They don’t let you down on the drinks front either: their Gin & Chronic has CBD oil, while the Dusk ‘till Dawn is an espresso martini that uses an in house, overnight cold brew coffee syrup. Not to mention, they also have a variety of wines, beers, and bubbles to keep you happy — if your preferred hangover cure is hair of the dog. No matter how much you’ve damaged your liver the night before, Maison Bab and its better-for-you kebab options will be your ticket to salvation.

East: Butchie’s
Voted as one of London’s most-loved street food stalls, the team at Butchie’s has mastered the  delicate art of the fried chicken sandwich. What started off as a pop-up has now turned into a permanent location on Rivington Street in Shoreditch, and a space in the new Market Halls in Fulham. Soak up all of last night’s libations with The Buffalo Tower, which has two pieces of fried buttermilk chicken smothered in buffalo sauce and blue cheese ranch, or The Cheesy Rider with cheese drippings, house pickles, and Huy Fong sirracha sauce. Don’t forget to grab some halloumi fries with hot chili honey to have on the side — it is highly recommended.

West: Opso
Opso in Marylebone describes themselves as “Inspired by Greece, made in London”. Their incredible brunch menu has everything you need to soak up last night’s sins. To start you off, they’ve got a selection of mezzes which include the Feta Saganaki (baked feta cheese with wilted cherry tomatoes) and pastries like french toast with peanut butter, banana, chocolate pearls and salted caramel ice cream. Our favourite from their massive offering of egg dishes is the sunny-side up duck egg, hand-cut chips, smoked cheese sauce and tomato jam. Don’t forget the Opso Benedict, which has lamb prosciutto and Greek yogurt “hollandaise”. If you’re after a full-on main, there’s the open-faced souvlaki with grilled pork belly, tzatziki, tomato, onion, and mint on pitta bread will do you just right. Oh and if you want to continue on with the booze, they’ve got a list of bubbling brunch cocktails using premium Greek sparkling wine too.
