The Infatuation - Butchies is another pop-up graduate that has been serving their popular fried chicken sandwich (they mean burger of course, because this is England) at markets and festivals all over London and beyond. Now they have their first permanent restaurant location in Shoreditch. And their ‘sandwiches’ are great - the chicken is always moist inside and crispy on the outside. It’s a small space that’s ideal for takeout, but there is some seating as well. If you’re with mates, plan to sit upstairs. read more
Foodism - We're living in a post-KFC world, and if you didn't know it already, there's no better time to discover that a bird in a bun is one of the finest ways to see in your night. The best place to acquaint yourself with this philosophy is at Garrett and Emer Fitzgerald's pop-up turned funky fried chicken restaurant Butchies. Inspired by the fast food culture of NYC, Butchies brings quality buttermilk nugs – made from meat that's sourced from happy chicken specialists Castlemead Poultry – to Shoreditch. It's satisfying, no-fuss grub with a sustainable edge. read more
TimeOut - The first bricks ’n’ mortar restaurant from the award-winning street food stall, Butchies is a simple fast food joint, set across two floors, with friendly counter service, good music and sharp decor. The best place to eat is the bigger upstairs space, where it’s bright and retro-cool. Burgers are big, the crisped-up fried chicken peeking luxuriously from the sides of the bun. The guac, chipotle mayo and streaky-bacon-stacked Jenny from the Block was made with thigh meat, making it daringly dark and fabulously juicy. read more
The Hand Book - Designed by Block1 Design, the space is small; it says there are 45 covers, but unless you were packed in quite literally like chickens, (not of course like the chickens used at Butchies, they are slow reared free-range chicken and have plenty of space to roam around) then I’m not sure how that would work. Divided over two floors, the shop has a minimalistic, industrial feel to it with exposed brick walls, sheets of corrugated iron and neon signs throughout. read more
Square Meal - Following on from its original hatch in Camden, Butchies now has its first bricks-and-mortar site. Split across two floors, the space features neon signs and a red and green colour scheme, accommodating just shy of 50 diners, while also offering takeaway. The all-day menu features a range of wings, sandwiches and salads. From a selection of six free-range fried chicken sandwiches, diners can pick from the Original, featuring pickles and homemade garlic and fresh herb mayo, or the Jenny from the Block with guacamole, chipotle mayo and smoked streaky bacon. read more
