EXPERT REVIEWS

Standard - Kym’s is run by his family following the death of his dad. With degrees in chemistry and social anthropology under his belt he had travelled in China to learn techniques and traditions and was specialising in dim sum. And what dim sum. The skill, wit, inventiveness, subversion and astonishment therein are worthy of more than the one Michelin star that A Wong was awarded in the 2018 guide. read more
Wallpaper - Called Kym’s, after the original restaurant that Wong’s parents owned for 27 years, this iteration slots nicely into its contemporary setting, thanks to international firm, Michaelis Boyd, which has created a stylish interior layered with subtle Chinese inflections. The two-floor space features a mix of dark woods, speckled terrazzo flooring, natural plaster walls and decadent furnishings, which include crushed velvet banquettes and leather ‘Utility’ dining chairs by Neri&Hu, in blush pink and deep plum tones.  read more
The Times - Kym’s opening was so hotly anticipated by restaurant lovers. Recently landed at the City’s Norman Foster-designed Bloomberg headquarters, a complex of expensive banality, it has had us all agog. The original Pimlico restaurant has moved elegantly from being the subject of niche, nerdy fandom into mainstream acclaim without missing a beat. Wong cooks like a fellow obsessive, taking hours to craft ravishing dumplings and days to create the most memorable duck. read more
Vanity Fair - Kym’s is opulent, with a fake cherry blossom tree greeting you on arrival, flowing over the bar. A mix of plush velvets, smooth leather and varnished wood completes the look, which feels neither Chinese nor British, other than the aforementioned blossom looming over proceedings. The kitchen is open and diners can sit at the bar looking in and watch the meat chef expertly wield his cleaver. read more
Olive Magazine - Millennial pink menus and a towering fake blossom tree clash happily with moody metals and dark woods in this fresh new restaurant in the critically acclaimed Bloomberg Arcade. Choose between crowding into booths or at-the-pass counter dining and expect to fight for space and attention with the rowdy City boys a location like this attracts. read more
